BCE was pleased to co-sponsor a showing of the film 2040, by Damon Gameau, in the evening of 24th April. Sustainable Braidwood organised the evening and had a full house at the National Theatre, around 130 people, manifesting a dream of Angela Hunter that was, tellingly, interrupted by fires, floods etc.

The film is a brilliant and positive depiction of things we already have that can make a huge difference to the world by the time Damon’s young daughter is grown up. His message: we have everything we need, right now. We just have to get on with it. If you haven’t seen it you can (I think) stream it or get the DVD – see the web site above. Highly recommended, especially if you struggle to maintain some optimism about the world.

The evening also featured a short doco by local budding film maker  Jarrah Parsons, Brave Young People, a series of interviews of local young people on their experience of the Black Summer fires. Damon was very impressed and will assist Jarrah with further work.

A Q&A session after the films, with Damon via video link, covered everything from cattle feed through micro-grids to community action on inequality.
